House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. Thereโ€™s nothing more fearful than the unknown and the book is full of unknown, unexplained horrors. Itโ€™s weird layout and endless footnotes make it one of the most atmospheric horror books out there. The book is a maze, a frightening enigmaโ€ฆa dark door to a dreadful world.

      October 16, 2017 at 7:08 am

  31. Anastasia says

The scariest book I’ve read was a bit unintentional. I was in third grade and picked up a choose your own adventure type book. I’d never read one before, so I just started reading it straight through, page by page. It was so confusing and all these strange and scary things were happening in such a confused way! Later I found out why lol ๐Ÿ˜€ It wasn’t as scary when I read it properly ๐Ÿ˜€

    • Donna Galanti says

      October 17, 2017 at 8:36 am

Pet Cemetery was really frightening for sure! I haven’t read the Charlet Davidson series but will check out. IF you like paranormal romance and mystery, you might like my Element Trilogy books. It’s paranormal, suspense, and romance on the dark side :). I like to say it’s Dean Koontz with a dash of steam. ha ha! And speaking of Dean Koontz (my fave ever author!) I am interviewing him on the radio on Authors on the Air with Global Radio Network in an hour and a half interview on Nov. 20, the day before his new release, The Whispering Room. Well, I started reading The Amityville Horror from my parent’s bookshelf when I was 7, and it gave me nightmares night after night until my parents removed the book from our house. So it probably scared me more than any other books! But as an adult, the book that creeped me out the most is probably The Red Tree, by Caitlin Kiernan.
Though the non-fiction Parasite Rex by Carl Zimmer gave me nightmares, but I have a fear of bugs in my body. Different kind of scared.

    • Donna Galanti says

      October 19, 2017 at 7:42 am

The scariest book I’ve ever read is probably Trigger Warning by Neil Gaiman. I don’t read much horror books, I never really gravitated towards them but I’m trying to read more genres this year.
