The Dark Side: Do we ever really know someone?

By Donna Galanti

Can we really know everything about someone?

After being married for 11 years I just found out my husband is allergic to sulfur drugs when he needed to go on blood pressure medicine. I didn’t even know what sulfur drugs are. How could I not know this? It could kill the guy.

Good thing we have major life insurance. Which makes me realize I also don’t know his blood type. At least I know he’s not on Viagra (I think). Now I am wondering. What doesn’t he know about me?

Jack Nicholson can’t keep it secret about his Viagra if he wants to live here

And the things you discover about a person late in life. Like after my mom died, I found out my dad is a ladies man. He thinks he’s quite the stud (his words – true!). He’s got a lady now for every different activity; dancing, golf, theater, travel. Wow. Yeah, that took some adjusting to.

Then there’s male friend who came out of the closet after knowing him for ten years. Not surprising. And fun to see that other side of life with him (and eye candy in his clubs:). Plus we both love Barbra Streisand!

My ex-Navy-husband (surprised I had one now, eh?) who never told the Navy we were divorced. For fifteen montauk-monster.com/pharmacy/topamax years he collected hundreds of dollars a month for marriage pay. He actually had rented an apartment with my name on the lease. Can you say court martial? I sent him up the river.

I know I surprised many a new employer who thought they knew me. I loved the challenge of interviewing for jobs, selling myself, and getting the job. But then came accepting and starting and then, well, hmm…quitting. I didn’t want the actual job just the rush in getting it. My husband would get mad as I got every job I interviewed for and then didn’t stay in it. What can I say? I’m a nomad. Don’t like to be tied down. Being an author? Perfect!

Then there’s the people who know me and look at me funny after reading my book, A Human Element. I know they’re thinking they never really knew me at all. One lady said, “Well, they certainly write books different nowadays.” Another said, “How could you know about all that stuff?” Yes, it’s dark inside my mind, folks. My husband was the most surprised when he finally read my book. But I’m really full of light, too. Swear.

Think you know someone? Or is there someone you thought you knew that surprised you?

That awkward moment when you have to buy a second closet because there are too many skeletons ….

Lucas, you are far too young to have two closets. One should be enough until you get to be an oldie like me 😉
